The training program was funded by PNB Housing Finance Limited (PNBHFL), under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.  The Construction Skill Development Council of India (CSDCI) oversaw the assessment and certification in coordination with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

The program aimed at boosting gender equality by transforming the livelihood of women construction workers through the power of skill. It’s conscious effort by CREDAI to change the current status quo where very few women are employed in this profession and help them in earning better livelihood. The trainees who successfully passed the training were felicitated with the reward money of Rs.1000 and a joint certification from CREDAI and PNBHFL. Seeing the overwhelming response and success, CREDAI plans to replicate this novel initiative in other cities as well so that more and more women being trained in the technical skills required by the sector, bringing them at par with their male compatriots in the industry.

Speaking on this special occasion, Mr. Vishal Gupta, Head of Skills Development at CREDAI National, said “This initiative marks a milestone for the Real Estate sector. Traditionally, a male dominated sector, these women who are graduating here today will go forward and lead the way for millions other to take up technically proficient employment in the real estate sector. As the second largest employer, real estate provides the perfect opportunity to women at earning a livelihood and improving their quality of life. For CREDAI, to act as the enabler and facilitator of the same, through our Skill Development Initiative, is a matter of great pride for us as well as the manifestation of our social responsibility.”

Sanjaya Gupta, Managing Director, PNB Housing Finance said, “The Indian real estate sector has seen tremendous growth over the last few years and is also the second largest employer in the country. The sector attracts a huge number of migrant labourers and a significant percentage of them are women workers, who have an important contribution to the real estate sector. However, as compared to their male counterparts, women are yet to acquire the desired skill set required for construction jobs. This initiative, under our CSR domain, facilitates training and development of the skills of women workers and is in line with our belief that equal prospects should be provided to both men and women. This exclusive training for women labourers in Raipur is just the first step towards building a conducive environment for them at both work and home, while saluting their abilities to aptly manage tasks in both the places. We cherish this collaboration with CREDAI and look forward to continue making efforts aimed at their overall upliftment and empowerment.”

CREDAI has so far trained more than 50,000 trainees in over 100 construction sites across 40 cities. CREDAI aims to undertake Skilling for at least 1 lakh Construction Workers in a year w.e.f. 2017-18.
