Delhi, July 19th 2016: The first edition of the prestigious national level skill competition, India Skills 2016, organized by Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), successfully concluded at Pragati Maidan. The competition was inaugurated by Hon’ble President of India, Shri. Pranab Mukherjee on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day held at Vigyan Bhawan on 15th of July. The two days long competition was held on 16th-17th of July at Pragati Maidan. The event saw skills competitions across the spectrum with fields such as Aircraft Maintenance, Bricklaying, Hairdressing, Mechanical Engineering Design CAD, IT Software Solutions for Business, Wall & Floor Tiling and many more, being represented at the event.
CREDAI participated in the competition as the” Lead Partner” for the Construction sector in the trades of Bricklaying and Wall & Floor Tiling. Kushal and Rustomjee Academy for Global Careers (RAGC) were CREDAI’s associate partners for the competition. At the competition, the selected winners of Pre-national Level competition organized by CREDAI showcased their skills in the given trades. Dharmendra Netam, Rahim Momin, Nagma Shaikh tied with Taukir Ansari and Rathalavath Sunil Kumar, Sabavath Sanjay Kumar, Nasiruddin Sekh tied with Shailendra Chava emerged as the winners in the Bricklaying and Wall & Floor Tiling category respectively. The winners of India Skills 2016 were awarded with a certificate of recognition, cash prizes worth – Rs. 1 lakh & a Gold medal to the 1st winner; Rs. 50,000 & Silver medal to the 2nd winner and Rs. 25, 000 & Bronze medal to the 3rd Winner by Minister of State, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge), GoI, Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy. Besides this CREDAI also gave a reward money of Rs. 1 lakh to each of the winners. These winners will now be trained and mentored by Kushal in Pune for the World Skills Competition 2017 due to be held in Abu Dhabi.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Getamber Anand, CREDAI President, said “Skilled manpower will be critical in facilitating various industries to ride the next wave of growth. India’s Building, Construction and Real Estate sector alone will need about 31 million additional workforce over the next 10 years if we want to utilize the potential and grow at a fast pace. CREDAI forayed in the world of Skilling with its flagship training program for construction workers, ‘’Kushal’’ in 2011 through its Pune Chapter in collaboration with National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC). Since then, it is conducting regular on-site training programs for construction workers at construction sites through its member developers spread across 24 states and 159 city chapters. Taking cognizance of CREDAI’s commitment towards skilling of construction workers, PNB Housing Finance Limited (PNBHFL) associated with it for upscaling the construction workers under its CSR initiative. With the support and trust of PNBHFL CREDAI is expanding skill training of construction workers across India. So far, CREDAI has trained more than 27000 construction workers across India covering Delhi-NCR, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana in a period of 5 years. It plans to scale this up to cover at least 500 sites and take the number to touch 1 lakh per year.
